January to April 2012

January 2012 brought with it a new chapter in our lives. Dennis and I decided our family needed just one more addition to it to be complete. Well the Almighty thought we needed two more. So in early January we found out we were having another set of twins due September 4th. This time around we decided to keep it a surprise as to the gender of our new additions. Our first reaction was 'are you kidding me?? again??' Then as we told people we started to get more excited. We actually told people pretty early in the game. I was only 6 weeks along but my family was having a cabin party and everyone was around and in one spot so we broke the news.  Below are the first pictures of the twins.

January was a cold month so we had to find new places to take the kids to burn energy since outside was not an option. One Sunday we spent a good 2 hours at Burger King play land. The kids loved this - next time I will have to remember to bring a book along to read.
We also got one of the first snows in January. It wasn't much but they still had to go outside and walk around in it and make snow angels. We tried sledding but that didn't last too long - too cold and too much work for Mom and Dad hefting the sled and kids back up the hill.

Yes I had to use suckers as bribery to get them to sit together on the couch quietly.
Another activity we thought was a good idea during the cold was to make cake pops. It turns out that my sisters and I are not related to Betty Crocker or Mr. Duncan Hines - the pops tasted fine, they just didn't look like they were supposed to. The kids loved eating the mistakes and licking their fingers though.
Raya looking all inocent - not so much. She pretty much just licked the icing straight from the bowl.
In February we actually had a semi decent day and had to go to the park.

Happy 3rd birthday Raya & Broden!! The party theme was Dora for Raya and baseball for Broden. They had a great party with lots of family and friends. The pinyata (2 of course) was super fun and we attempted to do face painting ourselves. The selection was very limited.
Bad news came along in March. Kyrah complained about her teeth hurting - low and behold she had 3 cavities!!!! We had to immediately change our evening routine. Before this we would let the kids take juice or milk and a snack to bed. The dentist pretty much yelled at us for this so from then on it is water only in bed and a non-sugary snack. Kids complained a bit but the transition wasn't too bad. And now at this point it is just a habit - Kyrah doesn't even eat her bedtime snack. Raya doesn't drink the water and Broden is hit or miss on eating or drinking it, but man watch out if you forget to put it next to their beds - they let you know it at the top of their lungs.

In April we were finally able to get outside in shorts and T-shirts. We decided we wanted to plant a garden.  Step one - find a spot and start tilling. Raya decided she would rather pick flowers.
All three loved walking around in the dirt.
And what do you find in dirt?? worms! Everyone of them would pick up the worms and carrying them around. We even had to get a container and keep them as pets - they lasted about a day.
